Polar Bear Cabin

North End of Banks Island, Northwest Territories, Canada

Description

Locked cabin. No power. Has a fuel oil heater. Sleeping space for 4 persons. Lake water available. Some emergency food supplies are also available. Good camping area. Good landing area for a Twin Otter aircraft.

Licences/Permits/Applications

Permission required from Department of Resources, Wildlife and Economic Development, GNWT. Backcountry Permit, Research Permit and Aircraft Landing Permit required from Aulavik National Park.

Environmental screening clearance required from the Environmental Impact Screening Committee. Please contact Linda Graf at (867) 777-2828 or Box 2120, Inuvik, NT, X0E 0T0.

Single side band radio may be available; check with RWED in Inuvik.

Chartered fixed- and rotary-wing aircraft. No scheduled service. Facility is also accessible by snow machine during snow season from Sachs Harbour.
