Facility

Walker Bay Research Station

Kent Peninsula, Nunavut, Canada

Description

One permanent structure (14 X 8 feet) which includes a fridge, deep freeze, hot water and shower. Facility is heated by propane and powered by sun and wind. Power strong enough for computers. Five prospector tents: 3 for sleeping and 2 as laboratories. Camp can hold (sleep and feed) 6 persons for 2-3 months or up to 10 - 12 for shorter periods. Lake water available.

The site also has an automated weather station providing data year-round.

Field parties must have a minimum of 2 persons. Contact Brent Patterson to obtain the Walker Bay Operation Manual for complete list of regulations.

Cost to use facility

Priced to cover food, fuel and equipment use. Price list available on request. Prices may change without prior notice.

Communications at facility

Satellite telephone (call charged to user in October)
Two HF radios.

Access to facility

Scheduled airline flights to Cambridge Bay; charter from Cambridge Bay to Walker Bay; Twin Otter on skis from May to early-June; helicopter from June to September; Twin Otter on floats from July to September.

Aircraft fuel available at Facility

Fuel caches in the general area can be provided upon request. Contract Brent Patterson for details.

Vehicle fuel available at facility
