McGill University aims to be a research leader and a model of progressive action. These days McGill is turning its research to "the greatest challenge human knowledge has ever faced": climate change. But when it comes to concrete action McGill fails to model a culture of sustainability. Its recycling program hasn’t been a great success. The failure of this relatively simple environmental initiative illustrates a real problem facing the environmental movement: the gap between knowledge and concrete action for change.
