Artists and weavers from Baffin Island share their expertise
Hull, Quebec, February 15, 2002 - Come and celebrate the opening of Nuvisavik, “The Place Where We Weave”: Inuit Tapestries from Arctic Canada, a brand-new exhibition of the Canadian Museum of Civilization, by participating in one of the many special activities taking place over its opening weekend. On February 23 and 24, artists and weavers who have journeyed from the small Inuit community of Pangnirtung on Baffin Island will be on hand to show visitors the complex creative processes involved in their tapestries. Artists, weavers and storytellers, in residence for one weekend only, will take pleasure in sharing their personal stories and those of their culture and traditional way of life.

Inuit weavers and artists from the small Baffin Island community of Pangnirtung in Northern Canada will be in residence at the Canadian Museum of Civilization over the weekend to demonstrate their art form and to talk about their culture and traditional ways of life.
Storytelling

An Inuit storyteller will share some of the many legends and stories depicted in the tapestries on display in the Nuvisavik exhibition. In English only.

Join co-curators Deborah Hickman, Maria von Finckenstein and July Papatsie and two visiting artists for a guided tour of the exhibition Nuvisavik. Visits available in French, English and Inuktitut.

Come and listen to Bill and Sarah Ekomiak, Inuit fiddler and spoon player, who will delight your whole family with the “dance music” of the North.
All activities take place in the exhibition and are free with Museum admission.
