A day to discover the history and lore of golf in Canada at the Canadian Museum of Civilization April 18, 2002 Hull, Quebec, April 11, 2002 - Before walking the greens this spring, the Canadian Museum of Civilization invites you to discover the ancient Scottish game of golf by taking part in an afternoon and an evening event for golf enthusiasts on April 18, 2002.
Before Fore! April 18 - 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. - Cascades Salon First, join our special guests for Before Fore!, part of the Museum’s Conversation and Coffee series. Learn about the past, present and the future of golf in Canada. The history of golf and the influence of technology on the development of the game will be presented by Dr. Peter Rider from the Canadian Museum of Civilization, as well as by Dr. David Gray, co-author of the book The Implements of Golf: A Canadian Perspective. Also, expert golf collector Doug Levy will be on hand to answer any questions about collecting golf memorabilia. Canadian Professional Golfers’ Association (CPGA) golf instructor Danielle Nadon will be discussing technology and technique. Finally, representatives from Chuck Brown Golf and Missing Links Golf retail stores will tell you all about the latest gadgets and clothing trends on the links!
During these presentations, you will also be able to admire selected artifacts from the Museum’s collection such as handmade feather balls and long-nosed wooden clubs, as well as modern equipment and accessories provided by Chuck Brown Golf and Missing Links Golf. Refreshments will be served. This activity is free with Museum admission. No advance registration is required. The presentations will be in English only.
Par for the Course April 18 - 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. - River View Salon Then, as part of our Evening at the Museum series, spend your evening mingling with other golf enthusiasts. Admire a selection of antique golf objects from the Museum’s collection, learn tips from expert CPGA golf instructor Danielle Nadon, putt on the greens with the newest clubs and try out the latest gadgets on the market while the staff from Chuck Brown Golf answer all your questions. View the latest golf attire during a roaming fashion show sponsored by Missing Links Golf. Before you go, take a break and relax at the “Nineteenth Hole” where you will be able to enjoy some refreshments and snacks from a cash bar. The admission to this bilingual event is free.
