Museum reports high visitorship for 2001-2002. Strong attractions override slowdown in tourism and economy
Hull, Quebec, April 19, 2002 – Well over 1.3 million people visited the Canadian Museum of Civilization in the fiscal year ending March 31, 2002, despite an economic and tourism slowdown. The Canadian War Museum received nearly 125,000 visitors.
The Canadian Museum of Civilization’s main exhibition Lifelines: Canada’s East Coast Fisheries attracted over 197,000 visitors. This exhibition was produced in cooperation with five museums and gallery from the Atlantic Provinces and closed on February 24, 2002. As of March 31, Resonance: Musical Heritage of la Francophonie has attracted over 224,000 visitors and continues on display until March 23, 2003.
The website for the Canadian Museum of Civilization Corporation attracted high levels of visitorship with 20 million pages viewed in the year ending March 31, 2002. Via the Corporation’s website at www.civilization.ca people from across Canada and around the world consulted 15 million pages at the Canadian Museum of Civilization’s website, 2 million pages at the Canadian War Museum website and 3 million pages at the Musée virtuel de la Nouvelle-France.

An average visit to this Museum lasts over four hours and, as visitor evaluations suggests, each visit satisfies the desire to learn, to marvel, to be entertained.”
