A Castle Comes to Life at the Canadian Children’s Museum from May 25 to September 22, 2002

Gatineau, Quebec, May 23 , 2002 - From May 25 to September 22, 2002, visitors will be transported to a magical kingdom where they can explore The Amazing CastleTM, on display at the Canadian Children’s Museum in the Canadian Museum of Civilization.

Inside the castle’s stone walls lies a happy and peaceful community where every citizen has a special job to do. Visitors will encounter seven members of the castle community. By helping Posey the Gardener harvest vegetables, or Gable the Carpenter build a chair, visitors can playfully explore ideas related to community life and experience the interconnectedness of individuals, as they take on the roles and explore the responsibilities of community members.

Besides offering an opportunity to visit a fascinating locale and discover its hidden recesses, this exhibition, produced by the Minnesota Children’s Museum, will allow the entire family to take an active part in the life of a small royal community preparing for an important celebration. The Amazing CastleTM takes you into a world of discovery where everything is touched by magic and where each person’s role is important.

The Castle and Its Inhabitants

The Entrance - Visitors are welcomed by Lord Ben and Lady Evolent, who ensure that the castle is a safe and happy place. At the entrance, a giant book tells visitors the story of this amazing castle and its inhabitants, and sets the scene for an important event.

The Great Hall and the Garden - Everyone is invited to sit at the royal table. Here the grownups are served by the young people, who help Kipper the cook prepare delicious dishes with medieval ingredients. They can also plant or pick vegetables in the royal garden with Posey, the gardener.

The Royal Puppet Theatre - Pure entertainment! HiJinx, the court jester, invites the entire family to take part in the show, with puppets depicting the inhabitants of the castle. Children can dress up as a jester to amuse the crowd, or play a lord or lady sitting on the throne.

The Royal Workshops - Visitors are invited to try their hand at the various trades that support the life of the castle. Trim, the tailor, needs apprentices to sew and repair clothing in the Tailor’s Workshop. In the Carpenter’s Workshop, helping Gable, the carpenter, make a table, a chair or another piece of furniture is fun and important work. Synge, the blacksmith, needs helpers over at the Forge to mend a hole in Kipper’s cauldron.

The Dragon’s Tower - Finally, to know all the secrets of the castle, each visitor must turn to the tower where Herald the dragon lives. His job is to announce important information to the citizens. But he has the annoying habit of falling asleep in the middle of a sentence. Visitors will use their own ingenuity and charm to figure out how to wake him up and find the answers.

The Amazing Castle is a new exhibition on display at the Canadian Children’s Museum from May 25 to September 22, 2002.
