We fund on average about 300 crime prevention projects per year. Public Safety Canada's National Crime Prevention Centre provides funding to selected projects that contribute to preventing and reducing crime in Canada.
Public Safety Canada is responsible for developing legislation and policies governing corrections, implementing innovative approaches to community justice, and providing research expertise and resources to the corrections community.
We employ some of the world's most renowned corrections experts. We develop legislation and policy in conjunction with the Department of Justice, Citizenship and Immigration Canada and federal and provincial correctional authorities. We also work with Indian and Northern Affairs Canada and First Nations communities to develop culturally-specific correctional policies and programs.
