Chief Petty Officer Second Class R.A. (Rick) Orton CD

CPO2 Rick Orton joined HMCS SCOTIAN as a Boatswain in 1972.  In 1974 he re-mustered to Diesel Mechanic.

For the next 12 years he was an active Class A Reservist, attaining the rank of Petty Officer First Class. Commencing Class B in 1986, he obtained his Engineer Charge Ticket and served as Chief Engineer in HMC Ships PORTE ST. JEAN, PORTE ST. LOUIS, FORTE STEELE, MORESBY and SUMMERSIDE as well as the Patrol Crafts RALLY and RAPID.  Promoted to CPO2 in 1988, he was posted to Reserve Training Unit Atlantic as Training Chief and has held various other positions including Chief Engineer Minor War Vessel Sea Training (A), Staff Officer MESO/DIVER NAVRESHQ, Staff Officer MCDV Training DMTE and Staff Officer MESO for MOSART.

Upon completion of the MOSART Project he returned to HMCS SCOTIAN and held the positions of Basic Recruit Officer and Readiness Officer. He held these positions until being appointed Coxswain in 2006.

CPO2 Orton was born and raised in Dartmouth NS, where he and his family still reside. In civilian life he owns a small renovation company.
