Endangered (E)
Any species which is in danger of extinction throughout all or a significant portion of its range other than a species of the Class Insecta determined by the Secretary to constitute a pest whose protection under the provisions of this Act would present an overwhelming and overriding risk to man.
Threatened (T)
Any species which is likely to become an endangered species within the foreseeable future throughout all or a significant portion of its range.
Experimental Population (XN)
A population of a listed species re-established outside its current range but within the probable historical range.
Proposed Threatened (PT)
Proposed to be listed as threatened.

Canada
Extirpated (XT)
A wildlife species that no longer exists in the wild in Canada, but exists elsewhere in the wild.
Endangered (E)
A wildlife species that is facing imminent extirpation or extinction.
Threatened (T)
A wildlife species that is likely to become endangered if limiting factors are not reversed.
Special Concern (SC)
A wildlife species is of special concern because of characteristics that make it particularly sensitive to human activities or natural events.
Data Deficient (DD)
A wildlife species for which there is insufficient scientific information to support status designation.
