FEDERAL COURT OF APPEAL JUDICIAL APPOINTMENT ANNOUNCED

OTTAWA, April 27, 2007 -- The Honourable Rob Nicholson, P.C., Q.C., M.P. for Niagara Falls, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following appointment:

The Honourable Johanne Trudel , a Puisne Judge of the Superior Court for the Districts of Hull, Labelle and Pontiac in the Province of Quebec, sitting in Gatineau, is appointed a Judge of the Federal Court of Appeal. She replaces Mr. Justice R. Décary who elected to become a supernumerary judge.

Madam Justice Johanne Trudel received a Bachelor of Civil Law (B.C.L.) in 1976 from McGill University and was admitted to the Bar of Quebec in 1978. She practised with the firms of Viau, Delisle et Massé in Montréal; Larivière, Drury et Brault in Longueuil; Geoffroy, Trudel in Sherbrooke and Beaudry, Bertrand in Hull developing a practice expertise in municipal law, criminal law and civil litigation. Before her appointment to the Bench, Madam Justice Trudel was a very active member of the Quebec Bar in Hull/Gatineau arguing cases before all levels of court and acting as Counsel to the City of Hull and Crown Counsel at the Hull Municipal Court. In 1993, Madam Justice Trudel was appointed to the Superior Court of Quebec in Hull. From July 1, 1998 , she has acted as Coordinating Judge for the Districts of Hull, Labelle and Pontiac. Madame Justice Trudel, prior to appointment to the Bench, was very active in the community acting as a Member of the Board of Directors of la Fondation Pierre-Janet and as President of the Board of the Directors of the Canadian Dyslexia Foundation.

This appointment is effective immediately.
