QUEBEC JUDICIAL APPOINTMENT ANNOUNCED

OTTAWA, June 5, 2007 - The Honourable Rob Nicholson, P.C., Q.C., M.P. for Niagara Falls, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following appointment:

The Honourable Suzanne Tessier, Coordinator and Professor of the Police Foundation Program at La Cité Collégiale in Ottawa, is appointed a Puisne Judge of the Superior Court for the Districts of Hull, Labelle and Pontiac, in the Province of Quebec. She replaces Madam Justice J. Trudel ( Hull), who was appointed to the Federal Court of Appeal.

Madam Justice Tessier received a Bachelor of Civil Law (LL.L.) in 1982 and a Bachelor of Social Sciences (Political Science) in 1977, both from the University of Ottawa and was admitted to the Bar of Quebec in 1984. She practised with Bélanger, Pommainville et Tessier and then as counsel for Outaouais Community Legal Aid before joining La Cité Collégiale where she taught law and was Coordinator of the Police Foundation Program. Her area of expertise is family law, criminal law, young offenders law and child protection matters. Madam Justice Tessier was active in the Bar of Hull as Bâtonnière de Hull and as a Professor at the Quebec Bar Admission course. She has been President and Member of the Board of Directors for the Aid Centre 24/7 (Hull) as well as a Member of the Board of Directors for the Basse Ville Community Centre (Ottawa) and of the Committee for the Consultation of Mental Health in Outaouais.

This appointment is effective immediately.
