How do I get registered as an Aircraft Maintenance Engineer?

Transport Canada is responsible for Aircraft Maintenance Engineer Licensing. For information, contact Personnel Licensing.

How do I get an aviation medical certificate?

You can obtain an aviation Medical Assessment Process - Periodic Medical Exam and Category 4 Medical Declaration by visiting the national site. In order to find a medical examiner, visit their website. Civil Aviation Branch Offices are also listed on Transport Canada’s national site.

How do I register my aircraft?

Transport Canada is responsible for aircraft registration. To register an aircraft, call (506) 851-7131.

Who do I call with concerns or complaints regarding Air Travel?

Transport Canada still operates two airports in Atlantic Canada.

What is the Airports Capital Assistance Program (ACAP)?

The Airports Capital Assistance Program (ACAP) provides financial assistance for, in descending order of priority, safety-related airside capital projects (such as installation of lighting, emergency response service vehicles, rehabilitation of runways, as well as heavy airside mobile equipment such as snowblowers), safety-related groundside improvements including upgrades to terminal buildings, and also for refurbishing other assets on airport property.

How can I report an aviation event?

An aviation event can be a low flying aircraft, a dangerous flight operation and dangerous aircraft maintenance practices.

Recent events or aircraft operations can be traced or investigated more easily. Record information and inform Aviation Enforcement as soon as possible. Information to be recorded could be the following:

  • Location and direction of flight
  • Estimate of the aircraft above the ground (for low flying event)
  • How was that height estimated?
  • Time of day?
  • Number of persons on board, if any could be seen
  • Type or aircraft – size, wing type (High Wing, Low Wing, Multi-Wing)
  • Aircraft identification, markings or colours
  • Photos taken
  • Details of event

Any noise associated with the landing or taking off of any aircraft should be discussed with your local airport authority.



MARINE

How do I register my recreational boat and trailer?

Starting April 1, 2006, Service Canada Centres will be delivering pleasure craft licensing on behalf of Transport Canada.

Under an agreement between Service Canada and Transport Canada, pleasure craft licences will also be available at 36 Service New Brunswick Centres as well as Service Canada locations in New Brunswick.

How do I license my small commercial fishing vessel?

Transport Canada is also the federal department responsible for small commercial fishing vessel registration. All relevant information can be obtained at the Ship Registration web site, or call toll free: 1-877-242-8770

Who is responsible for ship inspection?

Transport Canada’s Marine Safety directorate is responsible for regulating marine transportation as well as for the inspection of both domestic and foreign vessels in Canadian waters. Marine Safety Offices are located in each of the four Atlantic provinces.

Who is responsible for marine search and rescue?

RAIL

Who is responsible for railway safety?

Transport Canada is responsible for the oversight of "federally regulated railways". It inspects and audits all aspects of railway operations including the Railway Safety Act, Transportation of Dangerous Goods Act and Canada Labour Code. The rail safety unit liaises and consults with the railway industry, other government departments and provinces and municipalities to promote railway safety. Shortline railways in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick are under provincial jurisdiction and follow the similar rules and regulations that apply to federal railways. Transport Canada is also contracted by the provinces to provide monitoring and enforcement services on their behalf.

CANUTEC stands for the Canadian Transportation Emergency Centre. CANUTEC is the national bilingual advisory service provided by Transport Canada to assist emergency response personnel in handling dangerous goods emergencies.
