The Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) section of Transport Canada Atlantic Region promotes safety in the transport of dangerous goods throughout Newfoundland, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island. This is accomplished by providing assistance and advice on the Transportation of Dangerous Goods Act (TDGA), monitoring compliance through inspection programs and providing advice on accidents involving dangerous goods. Inspectors within the air, marine, rail and road transportation modes conduct regular inspections to ensure compliance with the Transportation of Dangerous Goods Act and Regulations. Training It is the employers' responsibility to ensure that employees receive appropriate TDG training. General information on training and a list of companies that provide training within the Atlantic Provinces is available online. CANUTEC Transport Canada operates the Canadian Transport Emergency Centre (CANUTEC). CANUTEC provides a free, 24 hour, bilingual service to assist emergency personnel in responding to dangerous goods incidents. To report an incident, call (613) 996-6666. Permits Permits are issued by the Minister to authorize an activity to be carried out in a manner that does not comply with the Act provided that the activity is conducted in a manner that provides an equivalent level of safety. Means of Containment The Transportation of Dangerous Goods Act requires that certain types of dangerous goods be contained in packaging that is built to specification standards. The standards relate to the design, manufacture, marking and use of the container.Further information on dangerous goods can be found on the TDG national webpage.
