Transport Canada owns and operates a number of ports
in the Atlantic Region. Transport Canada is responsible for the implementation of port security requirements at all ports in Atlantic Canada.
The Navigable Waters Protection Program ensures a balance between the public right of navigation and the need to build works such as bridges, dams or docks for example, in navigable waters.
