Combustion Testing

Gas turbine aerodynamics and combustion expertise at the NRC Institute for Aerospace Research (NRC Aerospace) is used extensively by clients and collaborators to help develop the next generation of combustion technologies.

NRC Aerospace has four combustion test cells offered for collaborative or fee-for-service operations to clients. Each cell is equipped to client specifications and is serviced by our support capabilities.

In addition, NRC Aerospace offers full instrumentation for measuring and recording gas and liquid temperatures, pressures and flow rates, wall temperatures, and combustor exit gas temperatures and gas composition profiles, using water-cooled rakes.

NRC Aerospace can also carry out fuel-flexibility testing by seeding various inert or higher hydrocarbon components into our existing natural gas supply.

Emissions Control and Measurement

  • On-line equipment to analyze exhaust gases including O2, CO2, CO, NOx, unburned hydrocarbons and smoke
  • Saturated steam, up to 1.2 lb/s at 300 psi, to control NOx emissions
  • Water injection up to 10 gpm and 600 psi for NOx control.
