Design Variations
There were many design variations.
One design that was occasionally used may be based on a mortarboard or
naval cap. In the nurse's cap from a Jewish Hospital in Montreal, the
almost square crown flares to a point at centre front, which refers to
the flame from Florence Nightingale’s famous lantern
(2001.108.1). A unique
shaped cap, possibly based on the
fez,
was designed for the hospital founded by the Freemasons in Morden,
Manitoba (1999.267.64).
