Canadians are authorized to remain in Senegal without a visa for three months.
If you are settling in Senegal, you must apply for a foreign national identity card from the Direction de la
police des étrangers [foreigners' police division].
To obtain a foreign national identity card submit your request to the Ministry of the Interior:

Documents you must provide to open an application file for a foreign national identity card
- A handwritten request addressed to the Minister of the Interior
- Three (3) revenue stamps (10,000F + 5,000F + 200F)
- A copy of your passport's identification page and the page with the stamp for entry into Senegal
- A birth certificate or a record of civil status or a certificate in lieu of birth certificate *
- A police clearance, given to you by the RCMP, dated no more than three months prior to the date it
is submitted to the Senegalese authorities
- A medical certificate issued by a medical officer
- An employment contract stamped and approved by the Minister of Labour and Employment for
expatriate workers
- An undertaking of assistance or proof of means of support (salary income, pension, ...)
- Three (3) identity photos
- A security deposit guaranteeing repatriation if required, the amount of which is set according to the
country (130,000 CFAF for Canada). The deposit will be reimbursed upon your final departure from
Senegal.
You will be issued a receipt, which can be renewed as many times as necessary. You must report every
three months to have the receipt stamped until the identity card is issued or you leave Senegal. You may
have to wait up to one year for the card to be issued.
* These documents can be obtained at the Canadian Embassy. A $50 fee (or the equivalent in CFA francs)
applies for each document. These documents will be provided only upon presentation of the originals issued
in Canada that will not be accepted by Senegalese authorities because they are written in English or the
deadline for submission has passed.
