Pandemic Influenza: Additional Information

Pandemic Influenza Information

A/H2N2 Influenza Virus

In late March 2005, the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) identified the H2N2 influenza A virus in a proficiency test sample supplied by the College of American Pathologists (CAP). The College routinely sends various samples tests to participating laboratories to assess the ability of lab technicians to accurately identify influenza strains currently in circulation. The H2N2 virus last circulated in humans from 1957-1968 and was included in the College's test samples and distributed to laboratories in countries around the world. All test samples shipped to Canadian laboratories have now been destroyed.
