This Course provides introductory training to Privacy Impact Assessment (PIA) Practitioners, PIA managers, and other Government of Canada (GoC) personnel on Privacy Impact Assessments and other privacy-related issues.
The main topics are:
- A general introduction to privacy. You can review some definitions of privacy, the historical, environmental and Canadian context of privacy, the importance of privacy in the 21st Century, and the universal privacy principles.
- The legislative and policy world of privacy in Canada. Here you can review some of the main legislative and policy documents that have a significant impact on privacy-related issues like the Treasury Board's (TBS) Policy on Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs), the TBS Guidelines on PIAs, and the Privacy Act, just to mention a few.
- In Defining Privacy Impact Assessments, you can review the key features of PIAs, and some of the benefits and the importance of PIAs.
- An overview of the PIA process.
- The key stakeholders involved with a PIA, including their roles and responsibilities.
- There is also a glossary of key terms and a listing of web addresses. In your 'travels' through this Training Program, you will have come across most, if not all, of these terms and web addresses.
