Collaborative Research

Opportunities for collaborative research between INMS and industry partners exist wherever there are common technical objectives or where the unique expertise of the Institute provides an effective match for industrial requirements. Joint projects result in the transfer of skills and know-how, and the potential for new or improved products and processes.

Collaboration is subject to the availability of resources, which vary from group to group and from time to time. Typically, the Institute and partner share in funding for the project. Partner funds are generally eligible for SRED federal tax credits. The partner may also look to the NRC IRAP program for financial assistance. Overall, collaborative research can be a cost-effective route to creating technology for commercial success.

Intellectual Property resulting from collaboration will be protected, normally through patents, and made available to the partner under licensing agreements through which the Institute sees a return on its research investment.
