Archaeologist talks about major discoveries in the Mediterranean at the Canadian Museum of CivilizationGatineau, Quebec, October 12, 2006 — The Canadian Museum of Civilization, in partnership with the Canadian Institute for Mediterranean Studies, invites you to join Archaeologist Jean-Yves Empereur for a fascinating presentation on his recent underwater and land discoveries in Alexandria, Egypt.
Dr. Jean-Yves Empereur is a French archaeologist and Egyptologist, and a Director of Research at the French Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique who has been greatly influenced by famous underwater explorer Jacques-Yves Cousteau. In 1990, Dr. Empereur established the Centre d'Études Alexandrines whose mandate is the study of the antiquities and history of Alexandria, especially through salvage excavations on land and underwater. Dr. Empereur has published several books and articles, most recently focusing on his Alexandrian discoveries. Three documentary films have been produced on his tremendous work on the ancient city of Alexandria and his underwater discovery of the Pharos lighthouse, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.
