Canadian War Museum presents Remembrance activities for the whole family

Ottawa, Ontario, November 1, 2006 — Join us for a week of Remembrance activities at the Canadian War Museum. Until November 12, the Museum is presenting a compelling new opera for youth as well as touching wartime readings, special in-gallery activities and a week-long concert series. These special events will help families remember and learn more about our country's military history.

From Tuesday, November 7 to Saturday, November 11, 2006, opening hours are extended to 9 p.m.

Remembrance activities include

November 1 to 12 — Naomi's Road
Presented by Vancouver Opera in the Schools
Location: Barney Danson Theatre

The Canadian War Museum brings the Vancouver Opera production of Naomi's Road to Ottawa for an exclusive engagement! This professional opera for young people and their families is based on the novel by Canadian author Joy Kogawa.

Naomi's Road tells the touching and dramatic story of a nine-year-old Japanese-Canadian girl in the Second World War who confronts the harshness of forced relocation and discovers her own resilience of spirit. In a sensitive, visually evocative production filled with emotion, humour and soaring melodies, Naomi and her older brother Stephen struggle with the harshness of war, racism, bullying and loss of family. Ultimately, brother and sister triumph over their fears and discover the gifts that sustain them: music, words and love. Their resilience of spirit offers hope for the future and will allow visitors to experience the power of literature and music as an entry into this period of Canadian history.

Call the Museum Box Office for tickets and show times: (819) 776-8600.
Note: Performances are presented in English only.
