ENERGY STAR® Eliminates the Guesswork

(277 words)

Want to take the guesswork out of purchasing new windows and sliding glass doors? Look for the familiar ENERGY STAR symbol, a sure sign that the product is among the most energy-efficient on the market.

Most window and door manufacturers make performance claims when marketing their products, but only those models qualified to bear the ENERGY STAR symbol have been proven to meet the program’s strict performance requirements, which include independent testing of the unit’s thermal performance. For the homeowner, this is a virtual guarantee (assuming proper installation) of energy and cost savings, increased comfort and reduced exterior noise.

ENERGY STAR qualified products are also good for the environment, because the less energy we use, the fewer pollutants are produced, resulting in cleaner air and healthier communities.

When purchasing new windows or sliding glass doors, make sure the model you select is ENERGY STAR qualified in the region where you live (qualification is based on four climate zones across Canada). This information will be displayed on the ENERGY STAR label and in the product literature.

Look for the ENERGY STAR symbol to identify the most energy-efficient products and take action on climate change.

For more information on the ENERGY STAR international symbol or tips on energy-efficient products, call Natural Resources Canada’s Office of Energy Efficiency (OEE) toll-free at 1 800 387-2000, or visit the OEE Web sites at oee.nrcan.gc.ca [This link opens a new window] and energystar.gc.ca [This link opens a new window].
