Window Shopping? Look for the ENERGY STAR® Symbol
(381 words)
If you've done any “window shopping” in the past year or two, you've no doubt discovered that not all windows are created equally. In fact, Canadians can choose from a dizzying range of styles, construction materials and manufacturers.
That’s why the ENERGY STAR label for windows and sliding glass doors is becoming an important tool for homeowners in search of top-quality products that can reduce their energy consumption and save them money. Energy-efficient windows and sliding glass doors can also increase home comfort, cut outside noise and have less condensation in cold weather than standard products.
Windows and sliding glass doors are the newest additions to the growing list of products that can qualify for the ENERGY STAR symbol in Canada (swinging doors and skylights will be added in April 2005). Each ENERGY STAR qualified window and sliding glass door has been certified by an independent accredited agency for its energy performance. They also meet strict technical requirements set by industry and government to qualify for one or more of the four climate zones in Canada.
Look for the ENERGY STAR symbol to identify the most energy-efficient products and take action on climate change.
