What's ENERGY STAR?
If you replace all your appliances with new ENERGY STAR qualified models, you'll save energy and money for as long as they last. And if you make a few simple changes like washing your laundry in cold water, you'll save even more.
Today's appliances are much less power-hungry than those built 20, 15 or even 5 years ago.
So, purchasing a new one is a perfect opportunity to cut your energy consumption.
All you have to do is look for the most energy-efficient models.
Here's how:
- Look for the ENERGY STAR symbol.
- Compare the energy consumption rating for similar models by checking
the EnerGuide label. - Compare the energy cost for the models that interest you.
- Consider the purchase price and operating costs for each model before you decide which one to buy.
ENERGY STAR is the international symbol of premium energy efficiency, administered in this country by Natural Resources Canada. Appliances that display the ENERGY STAR symbol are among the most energy-efficient in their category.
- They've been tested according to prescribed procedures.
- Their performance exceed the Government of Canada's minimum
energy performance standards (by 10% to 50%, depending on
the type of appliance).
