Your Buddy, Gregory Charles

The other night, having dinner with a friend, we spent a good part of the evening talking about the nature of friendship. Ours, her relationship with another friend, the friendship one has with a mate, and how that differs from platonic friendships, how men and women seem to view friendships differently, etc. etc. Endlessly fascinating.

But for some reason I don't think of friendship as a well-mined topic for songs. Well, this Sunday (Nov. 18th) on In The Key Of Charles, it seems Gregory will disprove this theory, as he explores the idea of friendship, musically.

Music on the show is performed by Ella Fitzgerald, Etta Jones, Chet Baker, (I'm betting Gregory plays My Buddy), Jacques Brel, James Taylor and Ruthie Foster, as well as Canadian recording artists Holly Cole, Jann Arden and Ann Murray. You'll also hear some classical music by Robert and Clara Schumann and Felix Mendelssohn, and of course some music from Gregory himself, at his piano.

What time is Gregory Charles on on Sunday 18? Is it a regularly aired program - I have been trying to locate it since I caught a few minutes of it a while ago.

It's at 10:00 a.m. (10:30 NT) on radio 2
and 9:00 p.m. (10:00 ATL; 10:30 NT) on Radio 1 -- for any of the shows if you go to the left hand menu to programmes, you can find out that kind of info, btw.

The thing about friendship is that it is based on giving.
Giving of oneself to another, just because.
No wonder that friendship is a subject, either main or underlined, of so much wonderful music. Great idea and very good show.
New listener,

Gregory Charles: THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for changing my Sunday mornings FOREVER. I love the show. I enjoy every piece I've heard you play, so far, and I even enjoy the commentary. (That's rare for me.)

Best of luck with this great show. I even love the title. In the key of Charles. Thanks,

Heard Gregory Charles for the 1st time today and really enjoyed it. His knowledge of music is captivating. Can hardly wait til next program.

I was lying in bed reading, being lulled gently by the sounds of Brahms, Chet Baker and, of course, Gregory Charles' wonderfully gentle banter when I found myself - book turned onto its face - gently singing along to James Taylor's 'You've got a Friend'. I felt SO full and then even more so as Gregory turned to his piano and moved from one beautiful rendition of various favourites to another. I then lay, almost breathless, listening to the most enchanting version of 'Tennessee Walse' (wow - what timing and what an harmonica player.....) - WHO were they??? Please let me know.
Thankyou, thankyou, thankyou for drawing such a warm, shimmery velvet curtain closed before sleep....

Yesterday, I turned on the radio and had the great opportunity to hear Gregory Charles' program. I especially enjoyed the mixed programming. Your commentary is great. I appreciated the show so much I immediately called four friends to tune in. I'm rarely home on a Sunday morning - so for me this was such a bonus!

Wow! what a guy! Quebec sure kept such a talent a secret, I had no idea who this velvety voice on the radio was until I looked up Gregory Charles on the website. I loved the friendship show, it made me stop washing dishes on Sunday morning and just listen. Thank you for the break, I'll be tuning in every Sunday from now on.

How very wonderful and captivating Gregory Charles is, unfortunately I tuned in late and only heard a small portion at the end. It is amazing how one can be all alone, and upon hearing Gregory Charles in the first few minutes feels a connecting through his dimanic personal and talent. I would love to be able to hear the programme again, any chance of a repeat? Susan Vancouver.

Susan, you can listen to the re-broadcast of "In the Key of Charles" on CBC Radio One at 9 p.m. Sunday nights.

In the Key of Carles is the best show CBC has aired in years. Gregory is so talented in a multitude of ways , not only his music but his presentation of the show.
I moved to Alberta 4 years ago after living 75 years in Quebec and Gregory brings back some wonderful memories of La Belle provence. Keep it up.
Let me know when he will be in Calgary, it's about time the West discouvered him.
