Canada's Ambassador for the environment visits CETC-Ottawa

Canada's Ambassador for the Environment, Ms. Karen Kraft Sloan and a delegation from Foreign Affairs Canada's Energy Secretariat visited the CETC - Ottawa facilities in Bells Corners on Tuesday, January 17th, 2006. The visit was an opportunity to inform the delegation about NRCan's work in the area of clean energy technologies.

Director General John Marrone began the visit with an overview of CETC activities. This was followed by a tour of the facilities, including the Vertical Combustor, High Efficiency Residential Lab, Metallurgical Fuels, Solarwall, ROBYS/Super Cetane and the Flaring Facility as well as presentations on Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) Computer Modeling, Renewables and Alternative Fuel Vehicles. The Ambassador showed a particular interest in our flaring technology and the district heating innovations being applied at the Drake Landing Solar Community in Okotoks, Alberta.

The visit concluded with very informative discussion, including a request from the Energy Secretariat to draw upon NRCan's expertise for a proposed training program on clean energy technologies for Trade Commissions and other Foreign Service employees.

The Ambassador indicated the scientific and technical expertise shared with them was valuable in enhancing her knowledge of NRCan's work in clean energy technologies and the positive impact it is having on Canada's international efforts to address climate change.
