Zone Comfort System Attracts Industry & Media

The Zone Comfort system, developed by Ecologix Heating Technologies in partnership with CETC-Ottawa's Sustainable Buildings and Communities group, is receiving a lot of keen interest from the public. Within less than a year, this innovative air handling technology has gone from concept, to prototype and to being an installed product that's strongly supported by industry.

In March, Ecologix showcased the Zone Comfort system through an open house at its first field trial site, a six unit infill row housing development in Hamilton. The event was well attended by local contractors, media, government officials, utilities and industry associations. The speakers included: David Wassmansdorf, the President of Passport Homes and Past President of the Canadian Home Builders Association; Dr. Gary Goodyear, the Honourable Member for Cambridge Ontario; and Peter Williams from Union Energy. They expressed their support for bringing clean technologies to the market, speeding up deployment and laying the groundwork for further innovations in energy use that reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Local contractors were impressed by the air handling system's potential to: increase homeowner comfort by improving air distribution; reduce bulkheads and box outs with small diameter duct distribution system; and reduce both power consumption and air conditioner size. Positive news articles on the Zone Comfort system and the event have since been published by the Canadian News Wire, the Hamilton Spectator, the Toronto Star, and the Burlington Post.

The Zone Comfort system is an excellent example of how the CETC-Ottawa is successfully working with industry to facilitate the development and deployment of new innovative, energy-efficient housing technologies.
