  Board of Referees

Boards of Referees Policy and Administration Pursuant to section 111 of the Employment Insurance Act and section 78 of the Regulations

4. APPLICATION

4.1 Board members

4.1.2 Bilingual Boards

There is a minimum of one bilingual Board in every region to ensure that there is bilingual service throughout Canada. Bilingual chairpersons and panel members may be requested to travel to any Board Centre within the region in order to meet the language requirements of a hearing. Depending upon the circumstances, the claimant or the employer may be asked to attend the hearing at the bilingual Board members' usual location.

If a Board Centre requires bilingual chairpersons or panel members, this should be identified by the Board Centre when requesting a new chairperson or panel member. Delays in scheduling hearings because of a lack of bilingual chairpersons or panel members are not acceptable.
