4. APPLICATION

4.7 Scheduling

4.7.1 Scheduling of hearings

Appeals are scheduled to ensure speedy service to claimants. The goal is to have 90% of appeals considered within 30 days of receipt.

In circumstances where the number of appeals does not justify a full day of hearings, the Service Canada manager has two choices:

(a) to convene a Board session for less than a day or;

(b) to arrange, with the claimant's concurrence, for the case to be heard at the nearest Board Centre, either in person, by way of a telephone hearing or video conferencing. Service Canada will pay the expenses.

Unless there are exceptional circumstances, cases should not be held in abeyance, but be scheduled to meet the Service Canada speed of service objectives.
