Mass Media and Advertising

Mass Media Funding

Mass media activity has been identified as an important part of the Federal Tobacco Control Strategy. Mass media campaigns build on and support tobacco control activities undertaken at the national, provincial and territorial levels in the areas of prevention, cessation, protection and harm reduction.

During the fiscal years 2002 to 2006, close to 50 projects across Canada have been supported with assistance from this funding. These projects have aimed to prevent youth from starting to use tobacco; to inspire, encourage and educate those wanting to quit; to raise awareness of the damages of second-hand smoke, as well as to help denormalize tobacco use. Results from these campaigns are shared here so that future projects can benefit from lessons learned.
