The National Pollutant Release Inventory (NPRI) is Canada's legislated, publicly-accessible inventory of pollutants released (to air, water and land), disposed of and sent for recycling by industrial and other facilities across the country. Pollution and Waste

After more than a century of heavy industrialization and consumption, the planet's inhabitants are feeling the impacts of over-crowded garbage dumps, contaminated sites, polluted air and water, and acid rain.

Environment Canada works to reduce pollution by tracking releases, providing information on the effects of harmful substances, establishing guidelines and legislation on pollution prevention and waste management, and developing effective environmental technologies.

This section contains information on how pollutants affect air, water and land, and on the steps Environment Canada is taking to reduce pollutant releases and their impacts.
