Sampling at the outlet of Laflamme Lake - Photo: Denis Labonté, St-Lawrence CentreAcid rain is precipitation that contains an abnormally high concentration of sulfuric and nitric acids. Since these pollutants can also exist as gases or particles, scientists refer to environmental concern as acid deposition. Acidic pollution forms in the atmosphere from contaminants which are produced primarily by the burning of fossil fuels for transportation and industrial processes
