Water Use

Water Use, Fishing on Lake SimcoeWater is used for many different purposes. In its natural setting, it serves as habitat for fish and many birds and animals. Humans use it for hydroelectric power generation, shipping, and water-based recreation.

The greatest number and variety of uses, however, remove water from its source, distribute it to users, and return any leftover to the environment. Examples include household and industrial uses, thermal and nuclear power generation, irrigation, and livestock watering.
