Government of Canada grants $275,000 in funding to Auberge du Km 31

Monts-Valin, Quebec, November 19, 2007 – The Honourable Jean-Pierre Blackburn, Minister of Labour and Minister of Canada Economic Development, today announced the awarding of $275,000 in repayable funding for the expansion of Auberge du Km 31, a commercial lodge located in the heart of Monts-Valin. Execution of this project is expected to lead to the creation of some 10 jobs in the area.

“Winter tourism is a booming sector, particularly among international tourists. The exceptional geographic and weather conditions of the Monts-Valin highlands continue to attract a growing number of Nordic sports enthusiasts who come from near and far to experience a one-of-a-kind adventure in this giant nature’s playground. Auberge du Km 31 is situated within a destination area that possesses tremendous tourism development potential. It is essential that the necessary facilities be put in place to accommodate a greater number of visitors and facilitate their stay in the area,” stated Minister Blackburn.

The purpose of this project is to increase the Auberge’s lodging capacity to 18 units, enlarge the facility’s dining room and carry out improvements to enhance the comfort of excursionists, particularly of snowmobilers. The project also calls for the construction of such related infrastructure as drinking water supply and sewage treatment systems.

“I am proud that Canada Economic Development recognizes and supports our commitment to offering outdoor enthusiasts quality services, right here in the heart of Monts-Valin,” said Réal Morin, President of Auberge du Km 31. ”I am convinced that this assistance, coupled with our efforts, will enable us to further our development more quickly.”

“Today’s announcement is rooted in the Government of Canada’s determination to foster the vitality of regional economies and stimulate job creation. Auberge du Km 31 will thus become a warm and welcoming supply stop and lodging facility that is capable of accommodating a larger number of local and international clients,” Minister Blackburn concluded.
