Secretary of State Denis Coderre Announces Support to Tennis Canada

Granby, (Quebec) - June 30, 2000 -- The Honourable Denis Coderre, Secretary of State (Amateur Sport), today announced a contribution of $25,000 from the Government of Canada to le Challenger de Granby.

Le Challenger de Granby is an international tennis tournament which will run from July 10-16, at the St. Luc courts. Some 56 players from 21 countries are entered. The event is an exciting opportunity to promote the sport across Canada generally, and in the region in particular.

Speaking in Granby, Mr. Coderre said that "the Government of Canada contribution will be a significant help in reaching out to aspiring athletes, and especially to youth who are the future of the sport. We expect to see tremendous benefits from this contribution. Le Challenger de Granby promises to be a memorable event for tennis players and for fans from all across Canada."

This announcement was made in the presence of the Member of the Parliament for Shefford, Ms. Diane St-Jacques.
