The following alert was transmitted by Kraft Canada Inc. to the news media on
October 4, 2007.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is monitoring the effectiveness of
the recall and continuing its food safety investigation.

HEALTH HAZARD ALERT
BAKER’S WHITE CHOCOLATE BAKING SQUARES MAY CONTAIN SALMONELLA
BACTERIA
DON MILLS, Ontario (October 04, 2007) – Kraft Canada Inc.w is warning the
public not to consume Baker’s White Chocolate Baking Squares (170 g)
because the product may be contaminated with Salmonella.
The affected product, Baker’s White Chocolate Baking Squares (170 g), has a UPC Code 0 66188 00860 3 and two Best
Before dates of 08 AL 04 and 08 MA 19. This product was distributed across
Canada.
There have been no reported illnesses associated with consumption of this
product. No other varieties of Baker’s White Chocolate or other
Baker’s products are impacted by this recall.
Consumers should not consume the recalled product and should discard any
product they may have.
Food contaminated with Salmonella may not look or smell spoiled.
Consumption of food contaminated with this bacteria may cause salmonellosis, a
foodborne illness. In young children, the elderly and people with weakened
immune systems, salmonellosis may cause serious and sometimes deadly infections.
In otherwise healthy people, salmonellosis may cause short-term symptoms such as
high fever, severe headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea.
Long-term complications may include severe arthritis.
Kraft Canada Inc. is voluntarily recalling the product from the marketplace.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has been notified of this recall.
