Abstract

Each point on this map represents a hydrometric gauging station. These automated stations are located on the rivers and they record the volume of water that passes a given point in one second. The water level data at these stations is collected and transmitted every three hours.

There are currently over 2000 hydrometric gauging stations in Canada’s national network. The 59 stations shown on this map represent the general hydrological conditions across Canada providing information on the flow-rate at times of water quality sampling, water abstractions for domestic and industrial use, the formulation of license conditions for effluent discharge during low flow, the design of bridges and drainage works, and flood prevention and alleviation during flood flows.

These are automated stations located on rivers that record water level, flow velocity or speed and discharge (the volume of water that passes a given point in one second). The water level data at these stations are collected and transmitted every three hours. Current water levels and recent trends observed at these stations may be viewed graphically by clicking on the Get Info from Map button above the map and then clicking on one of the stations.
