Canadians have every hope that his program to reduce poverty and promote education, health, and economic security in Honduras will enjoy great success," said Mr. Kilgour. </font></p> <p><font face="Courier">On November 30, 1997, Carlos Roberto Flores Facuss&eacute;, the Liberal presidential candidate, was elected to a four-year term. It was the fifth successive democratic election in Honduras.</font></p> <p><font face="Courier">The Secretary of State praised President Flores' commitment to participatory government, and expressed support for the new President's pledge to protect human rights in Honduras. </font></p> <p><font face="Courier">"Canada is committed to the economic, social, and democratic development of Honduras.
