Filing a Copyright Application in Other Subject Matter

Before You File!

The Application Process and Guide to Copyrights provide basic Copyright information.

Forms sent on-line are encrypted using 128-bit encryption. Strategis registration is therefore required to access on-line forms. JavaScript and cookies must be enabled to file on-line.

Mac and Windows clients: please view the System and Browser Requirements to ensure proper filing.

Help is available from the top navigation bar of the form. Use the Technical Problem Report form to report on-line filing difficulties.

Filing

1. Complete the application. Do not send a copy of your work with the application. The Copyright Office does not review or assess works, nor does it verify whether or not the title has already been used.
2. Review the application.
Once correct and complete, it is vital to print or save the completed application form for future reference.
3. Pay fees
Payments can be made using:

  • American Express, MasterCard and VISA
  • CIPO Deposit Account

This is not a debit card account. Please do not include any bank account information on the application. Contact the Client Service Centre for more information.

Print the credit card transaction confirmation page for future reference.
