Pursuant to the Commission's Rules of Procedure, Ms.&nbsp;Gusella has been selected by the Canadian Commissioners to serve as Chair of the Canadian Section. </font></p> <p><font face="Arial">Mary Gusella is a lawyer and was called to the Bar of Ontario. A public servant for some 30 years, Ms. Gusella has held a variety of senior positions within the Public Service, including Associate Under Secretary of State, President of the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency and Commissioner of the Public Service Commission. She obtained a Bachelor of Arts in French and Political Science from the University of Toronto and graduated from the University of Ottawa with a Bachelor of Laws.</font></p> <p><font face="Arial">Dr. Blaney is a Senior Fellow at the Simon Fraser University Morris J. Wosk Centre for Dialogue and former President of the University. In over 30 years of senior administration, Dr. Blaney has worked to improve the post-secondary education system throughout the Province of British Columbia.</font></p> <p><font face="Arial">The International Joint Commission is an independent, binational organization established by the Boundary Waters Treaty of 1909. The Leadership Network is responsible for promoting, developing and supporting networks of leaders at all levels of the Public Service of Canada and assisting them in the ongoing challenge of public service renewal. </font></p> <p><font face="Arial">Ms. Gusella joined the federal Public Service in 1971 and has served in a number of senior positions in the areas of economic development, human resource management, policy, co-ordination and government communications. </font></p> <p><font face="Arial">She has served as Commissioner of the Public Service Commission of Canada, President of the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency and Chairman and President of Enterprise Cape Breton, Deputy Minister of Multiculturalism and Citizenship and Assistant Secretary of the Cabinet (Communications) in the Privy Council Office. </font></p> <p><font face="Arial">Ms. Gusella holds a degree in Law from the University of Ottawa and a bachelor's degree from the University of Toronto. She was called to the Bar of Ontario and holds a certificate from the Canadian Securities Institute. She has also completed courses in advanced Negotiation and Mediation in the Professional Instruction for Lawyers Program at Harvard Law School. </font></p> <p><font face="Arial">Ms. Gusella has served on the Board of Trustees of the National Film Board of Canada and on the Board of Directors of the Institute of Public Administration of Canada and as its President in 1999-2000. </font></p> <p><font face="Arial"><strong>Jack Blaney</strong></font></p> <p><font face="Arial">Jack Blaney is Senior Fellow, The Morris J. Wosk Centre for Dialogue, Simon Fraser University (SFU). Previous University positions held by Dr. Blaney include President, Vice-President (External Relations) and Dean of Continuing Studies.</font></p> <p><font face="Arial">In over 30 years of senior administration in post-secondary education, Dr. Blaney has worked with colleagues to extend degree completion opportunities to adults throughout British Columbia; create liberal arts, public affairs and professional continuing education programs; raise over $100 million in private funds for SFU; establish the SFU downtown campus and Centre for Dialogue; and head one of Canada's premier universities. He has also worked with institutional partners to help make the overall higher education system work well for the citizens of British Columbia.</font></p> <p><font face="Arial">Dr. Blaney was born in British Columbia, has received several national and regional honours and has served on a variety of community boards, including the Vancouver Museum and Planetarium, KCTS/9 Public Television, the Vancouver Board of Trade and the Vancouver Police Department.</font></p> <p><font face="Arial">Among Dr. Blaney's current projects is the completion of a book on "The Idea of Leadership."</font></p> </body> </html>
