NEWS RELEASESNovember 29, 2004 (12:30 EST) No. 141 MINISTER PETERSON AND PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY EYKING TO HOST EMERGING MARKETS ROUNDTABLES International Trade Minister Jim Peterson and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of International Trade (Emerging Markets) Mark Eyking will host three roundtables on emerging markets in Ottawa from November 29 to December 1. These consultations, which will involve participants from across Canada from the academic field, civil society and the business community, will contribute to the development of an emerging markets strategy. Minister Peterson and Parliamentary Secretary Eyking will seek the participants’ views, experience and expertise to identify how the Government of Canada can best support Canadian businesses in order to succeed in emerging markets. These three roundtables are part of ongoing initiatives on emerging markets, which began early in 2004 with initial visits to prospective partner countries. Informal discussions have also been held with various stakeholder groups and the provinces and territories. International Trade Canada officials will be available to provide a debriefing on these discussions to interested media.
