Blind and Curtain Cords

Blinds and curtains are common items in many Canadian homes. There is a potential strangulation or entanglement hazard for babies and young children who have access to looped or long blind and curtain cords. A number of deaths and serious injuries related to babies and young children strangling on cords from blinds and curtains have been reported to Health Canada.

There are precautions you can take to ensure this type of tragedy does not occur in your home. Do not leave blind or curtain cords hanging. Keep furniture that children can climb up on, like a baby's crib, away from blind and curtain cords. Keep the cords high and out of the reach of children.

You can read more about the dangers of blind and curtain cords and how you can modify them to reduce these hazards in the following Health Canada publications.
