Forest Disturbances

There are many causes of forest disturbances. Some are natural, such as forest fires, insect infestations, diseases (for example, Dutch elm disease), climate (for example, ice storms and drought), and climate warming. Among the non-natural elements that disturb forests are increases in population density, urbanization, increased development of the road network, and economic activities such as agriculture and intensive tree cuts.
