The Health Canada Policy Toolkit for Public Involvement in Decision
Making
Case Studies and Techniques
The next section provides detailed case studies from many different
regions and branches of Health Canada. It provides in-depth descriptions
of many public involvement techniques covering all five levels
of the department's public involvement continuum.
In some cases, examples of techniques having been applied in
the United States and Europe are cited where sufficient Canadian
examples could not be found. The toolkit is a culmination of insights
gained from work experience across the department. To facilitate
further enquiries and information exchanges, the toolkit provides
departmental resource persons who may be contacted to guide the
selection and application of public involvement techniques. The
toolkit provides practical, "hands-on" information for Health Canada
employees, as well as a means to develop relationships for ongoing
collaboration. Health Canada's Corporate Consultation Secretariat
will collaborate with all branches and regions to keep the toolkit
up to date.
