 The transportation infrastructure in Canada is a network of natural water ways, canals, roads, railways, ports, terminals, airports and pipelines. Water transportation involves ocean, inland water and coastal water transportation, primarily along the Saint Lawrence Seaway. There are approximately 49 000 kilometres of railways transporting daily, tonnes of coal, potash and grain to different regions of Canada. Cars, buses, trucks and other large motor vehicles carry goods and people on more than 1 400 000 kilometres of roadways. There are approximately 26 important airports in Canada, which handle approximately 94% of all passenger traffic. Pipelines transport petroleum, gasoline, chemicals and other products daily to refineries and other industrial plants.
