OTHER THAN STATUTORY AUTHORITY

Non-Article 5 North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) Medal for Operations in the Balkans Order

P.C. 2003-1296 22 August, 2003

Her Excellency the Governor General in Council, on the recommendation of the Prime Minister, hereby

(a) authorizes Canadians to accept and wear the Non-Article 5 North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) Medal for Operations in the Balkans, with a "Non-Article 5" bar and different ribbons for each operation, in recognition of honourable service in operations other than those conducted according to Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty, usually peacekeeping operations;

(b) authorizes that Medal as a replacement for the three existing NATO Medals for the Balkans (Former Yugoslavia, Kosovo and Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia) which shall be retained in the order of precedence in the Canadian Honours System and continue to be worn by military personnel who have been awarded them, but as of January 1, 2003 are no longer issued; and

(c) directs that the Medal follow the Article 5 NATO Medal for Operation "Active Endeavour" in the order of precedence in the Canadian Honours System.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Order.)

This Order authorizes the acceptance and wearing of the NATO Medal, with "Non-Article 5" bar, by Canadians who have participated in NATO peacekeeping operations in the Balkans.
