On the 8 December 1986, John Polanyi shared the Nobel Prize in Chemistry. Polanyi came to Canada in 1952. His findings on infrared chemiluminescence had practical implications for the construction a powerful "chemical" laser. Polanyi is active in the peace and disarmament movements and is a Companion of the Order of Canada. More
