User Card Registration

Anyone who wishes to consult Library and Archives Canada's (LAC's) collection needs a user card. You can apply for it at the registration desk in the main lobby, where you will be asked to show proper identification. After agreeing to abide by the research procedures and regulations, you will be given your user card. It is valid for one year and entitles you to use the reference and consultation rooms, and to consult published and archival materials.

You may also apply for a user card online by filling out the User Card Registration Form. We will send to you an acknowledgement by email and a user card number. When you come to the registration desk at Library and Archives Canada's main building, you will be given your card when you show proof of identification.

Every time you want to use LAC's services, you will have to show your user card at the commissionaire's desk and sign the register.
